Modernizing the Processing and Issuance of Passports Via Multimodal Biometrics

Situation

Serving as a gateway to the Suez Canal, the tiny African nation of Djibouti (pop. 923k) lies upon one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. Innovatrics recently delivered an AFIS system to be used in a multi-biometric ID documents platform by the Djiboutian Ministry of Interior.

Challenge

To achieve the objectives it had set in modernizing its passport processing, Djibouti needed a new system to address its initiative of transforming the production and issuance of identity documents.

Our Solution

Innovatrics deployed its Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and integrated it with our partner’s user management system. The system allows Djiboutians to obtain secure biometric passports.

Result

Owing to our collaboration with our partner, 500,000 citizens have already been registered in the AFIS. Furthermore, the system is fully scalable to meet the future needs of the country.
