Biometric application programming interface (BioAPI)

BioAPI is an application-programming-interface standard: it lets a calling application swap one biometric software component (a Biometric Service Provider) for another without changing its own code. Among other things, it defines the Biometric Information Record (BIR) — the same header concept that CBEFF later generalised into its own, technology-independent framework.
