Common Biometric Exchange Formats Framework (CBEFF)

CBEFF is a vendor- and technology-independent framework for packaging biometric data: it standardizes the wrapper header (the Biometric Information Record) around a biometric payload, so that any system can identify what kind of data it is holding — and who defined its format — without needing to understand the payload itself. It complements format standards such as 19794 and 39794 rather than replacing them: those standards define the payload, CBEFF defines how it is labelled and wrapped.
