Innovatrics’s latest submission to NIST PFT III has significantly improved its overall error rates, reducing them by 20% across all datasets. This achievement has moved Innovatrics up to between 2nd and 5th place, depending on the specific scenario.
PFT III benchmark compares the speed of extraction of a proprietary template and the matching speed with the competition. Unlike other biometric fields such as facial recognition, this is a highly specialized field, where only nine companies with biometrics as their core compete.
“Our improved algorithms have showcased several approaches that considerably enhanced both the extractor and matcher, showing consistent gains across all the four tested datasets. Notably in the Port of Entry, BioVisa Application dataset, we are ranked in the Top 2,” says Innovatrics Head of R&D Jakub Sochor.
The improved algorithms have already been implemented in the main biometric engine that powers Innovatrics fingerprint-centric products such as ABIS.
Unlike fingerprint images, templates are mathematical expressions of minutiae points of a fingerprint, usually very small in file size. The small size and easy comparability allow for extremely fast matching – Innovatrics algorithms are able to search over 1 billion fingerprints in a second. There are also standardized templates, which are benchmarked by NIST MINEX III tests, where Innovatrics is among the global top as well. The proprietary templates are usually smaller and faster than the standardized ones because they are tuned to the system of each specific vendor.
