COOP Jednota Slovensko, Slovakia’s largest domestic retail network, is using Innovatrics identity and age verification to give registered customers access to its grocery stores around the clock, including during unstaffed hours.
The technology is built into the retailer’s mobile app and supports the 24/7 store format without requiring staff to check customers at the door.
Customers complete a one-time check in the COOP Jednota app using their identity document and a selfie. Once their identity and legal age are confirmed, they can generate a QR code in the app to enter participating stores outside staffed opening hours.
This also allows COOP Jednota to keep much of the regular store assortment available during automated hours, including age-restricted products such as alcohol.
“Thanks to excellent support and clear documentation, we were able to deploy and test the Innovatrics solution within a matter of days. Its greatest advantage is its simplicity and speed, allowing the entire identity verification and customer registration process in the app to be completed in just a few minutes,” says Michal Švrček, Director of IT and Services at COOP Jednota Slovensko.
More than 57,000 customers have completed the identity and age check since launch. What started as a single pilot has since expanded into a wider network of automated stores across Slovakia.
For COOP Jednota, the same registration process can support new locations without creating a separate verification setup for each store. The cloud-based service also runs without additional infrastructure for the retailer to maintain.
