Matcher's purpose is to compare two fingerprint templates - matcher doesn't work with fingerprint images but only with resulting templates. Matcher produces similarity score which says whether two fingerprint templates represent the same finger or not.
Verification Module:
Two stage algorithm - Minutiae verification, and - Pattern comparison.
Identification Module:
Extremely fast identification based on minutae preprocessing. Linear search through all database, every possible candidate is checked. Identification speed remains constant whether fingerprint template is present or not in the searched database.
US Government NIST MOC
May 21, 2009: The MINEX II trial was conducted to evaluate the accuracy and speed of MATCH-ON-CARD (.NET cards) verification algorithms. These run on ISO/IEC 7816 smartcards. They compare conformant reference and verification instances of the ISO/IEC 19794-2 COMPACT CARD fingerprint minutia standard. The test is an assessment of the core viability of matching fingerprints (i.e. the de facto leading compact biometric data element) on personal identity credentials based on the industry-standard smart cards. The results are relevant to users seeking to use minutia templates as an additional factor for authentication. Complete test results and testing procedure can be found at: http://fingerprint.nist.gov/minexII/ or http://fingerprint.nist.gov/minexII/minex_report.pdf.
US Government NIST MINEX
Year 2007: The MINEX (Minutiae Interoperability Exchange Test) large-scale testing, organized by US government's NIST, was started on March 2005. The objective of the test was to evaluate the interoperability between 1:1 algorithms from 14 different vendors using standard minutiae template (ANSI-INCITS 378). Of the 14 algorithm vendors only 6 obtained MINEX certification for both feature extractor and matcher. Innovatrics algorithm was certified by US NIST. Complete test results and testing procedure can be found at: http://www.nist.gov/itl/iad/ig/ominex_qpl.cfm.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Wavelet Scalar Quantization (WSQ) Gray-scale Fingerprint Image Compression Specification, dated December 19, 1997 provides the definitions, requirements, and guidelines for specifying the FBI's WSQ compression algorithm. The document specifies the class of encoders required, decoder process, and coded representations for compressed image data. Innovatrics is conforming to FBI WSQ standard for fingerprint image compression & decompression.
ANSI INCITS 381-2004 and 19794-4
Innovatrics is conforming to ANSI INCITS 381-2004 and 19794-4 for the exchange of image-based fingerprint.
IBIA for CBEFF Format
IBIA (International Biometric Industry Association) is the registration authority for CBEFF Format/Product Owner and Format/Product Type values. CBEFF is a biometric standard that defines a set of data elements that are used to describe biometric data records using agreed record headers. CBEFF facilitates biometric data interchange between different system components or between systems, promotes interoperability of application programs and systems that use biometrics, supports forward compatibility for technology improvements, and facilitates the software and hardware integration process. A CBEFF format type or product type represents a specific data format or product as defined by the format/product owner. Innovatrics has obtained CBEFF (Common Biometric Exchange Formats Framework) product for both ANSI-378 Matcher (00350B01) and ANSI-378 Extractor (00350A01). www.ibia.org/cbeff
Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201, PIV and HSPD-12
Year 2006, October: Strategic Partnership with Innovatrics` algorithm enables Cross Match to Deliver FIPS 201, PIV and HSPD-12 Compliant Solution. Bundled with Cross Match’s Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201 compliant template generator to create Cross Match’s ANSI/INCITS 378 Minutiae Extract and Match software, the new product gives Cross Match a FIPS 201, Personal Identity Verification (PIV) and Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) compliant extract and match solution. With this template generator and matcher software, Cross Match is able to better support its system integration partners and enhance its current FIPS 201 compliant offerings including the release of a fully compliant FIPS 201 physical access control reader. Complete results` list can be found at http://fips201ep.cio.gov/apl.php.
